BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Western Washington University softball team completed a four-game sweep over Western Oregon University Friday with a pair of decisive victories at Viking Field.
WWU defeated WOU by scores of 11-3 and 16-1 in 5-inning run-rule-shortened games. The Vikings opened the GNAC series Thursday with a pair of 5-1 victories.
The Vikings extended their winning streak to five consecutive games by pounding out 29 hits and scoring 27 runs in the doubleheader sweep over the Wolves.
Junior shortstop Hailey Rath combined to go 5-for-8 with four runs scored, two doubles, a grand slam and 10 RBI in the doubleheader. She had a pair of bases loaded doubles and the grand slam to account for her big run-producing day while becoming the seventh Viking to reach the 100 RBI milestone for a career. She tied WWU's single-game record with seven RBI in the nightcap.
Sophomore catcher Paris Dellamaggiore went 5-for-6 with a walk, sophomore center fielder Laila Carpenter was 5-for-7 with two doubles and three RBI, senior second baseman Kanilehua Pitoy was 4-for-6 with five runs scored, one double and three RBI and sophomore third baseman Maleah Andrews went 3-for-5 with five runs scored while extending her hitting streak to nine consecutive games.
Western's pitching completed a 4-0 week at Viking Field allowing two earned runs in Friday's 10.0 innings in the circle. Senior Joie Baker and sophomore Alli Kimball both recorded wins with sophomore reliever Kaiana Kong throwing 3.0 scoreless innings.
WWU finished the regular season going 7-0 against Western Oregon, which included three non-conference wins in Monmouth earlier in the season.
The Vikings opened Friday's doubleheader with an 11-3 victory over the Wolves, ending the game with four runs in the bottom of the 5th inning to bring the run rule into effect.
WWU opened with a pair of runs in the top of the 1st inning, but the Vikings answered with three runs and put the game away with a four-run 2nd inning. Senior second baseman Kanilehua Pitoy doubled in Maleah Andrews with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the 2nd inning for the game-winning RBI.
Junior shortstop Hailey Rath contributed to the run-rule victory with a three-run double in the bottom of the 5th inning and sophomore center fielder Laila Carpenter ended it with a double to center field to bring home the decisive run to bring the game to the final of 11-3.
Pitoy went 3-for-3 with a double and three runs scored and Carpenter went 3-for-4 with two RBI.
Sophomore Alli Kimball recorded the win improving to 7-2 on the season allowing five hits and three runs (1 ER) in 4.0 innings pitched.

The Vikings used a pair of eight-run innings in the 3rd and 4th innings to account for all the scoring in the 16-1 victory in the nightcap to record the 4-game sweep over the Wolves.
Trailing 1-0 after WOU broke a scoreless tie in the top of the 3rd inning, the WWU bats went to work sending 12 batters to the plate in the first of the eight-run frames.
Junior shortstop Hailey Rath provided the big blow with a grand slam in the 3rd inning, with senior Emma Andrewjeski-Ramirez and junior Olivia Matlock each recording run-scoring doubles.
The Vikings put the game away sending 12 more batters to the plate in the bottom of the 4th inning with Rath contributing a three-run double and sophomore Laila Carpenter going 2-for-2 in the inning.
Senior starting pitcher Joie Baker earned the win improving to 7-5 on the season allowing four hits and one run in 3.0 innings. Sophomore Kaiana Kong closed out the run-rule victory with 2.0 perfect innings.
Rath went 4-for-4 while tying WWU's single-game record with seven RBI and Paris Dellamaggiore went 3-for-3.
The Vikings 17 hits were a single-game high for the 2025 season.
