SEASIDE, Calif. – The Western Washington University softball team wrapped up its spring break trip to Northern California splitting its non-conference doubleheader Friday vs. Cal State Monterey Bay.
WWU dropped the opening game 2-1 and recorded a run-rule-shortened 13-3 win in the nightcap under the lights at the Otter Sports Complex.
Junior Kanilehua Pitoy started both games and went 2-for-4 in the second game setting WWU's all-time record for career games played with 190.
The second game was highlighted by home runs from Paris Dellamaggiore (first of her career) and Emma Andrewjeski-Ramirez.
Sophomore Kaiana Kong appeared in both games in the circle combining to allow three hits and two runs in 5.0 innings, picking up the win in the nightcap to improve to 5-0 on the season.
WWU returns to GNAC play next week with a four-game road series at Northwest Nazarene.
The Otters edged WWU 2-1 in a pitcher's duel in the opening game of the doubleheader.
