BELLINGHAM, Wash. – For the second consecutive season the Western Washington University softball team is headed to the Super Regional round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Vikings carry a 16-game winning streak and perfect 6-0 postseason record into the best-of-three super regional series beginning Thursday against Cal State San Marcos. WWU entered regional play as the No. 4 seed and CSUSM the No. 3 seed. The opening game of the series is scheduled for noon Thursday at CSUSM Softball Field. A FREE webcast will be provided via FloCollege.

WWU advanced to the Super Regional as one of 16 teams remaining in the 64-team national bracket, earning three wins last week at the Hayward pod defeating No. 5 Concordia Irvine and No. 1 Cal State East Bay (twice). This marks the second consecutive trip to the super regional round for the Vikings, defeating Cal State Dominguez Hills in walk-off fashion last year at Viking Field to punch their ticket to the World Series in Longwood, Florida. WWU went on to play in the national championship series earning runner-up honors falling to UT Tyler.

The Vikings enter the Super Regional round with a 43-10 overall record, winning 22 of their last 23 games, including a current 16-game winning streak. During the three-game regional last weekend the Vikings out-scored opponents 16-3 with the pitching staff maintaining a 1.00 ERA (3 ER, 21.0 IP) and the defense not committing an error for a perfect fielding percentage. Senior Emma Andrewjeski-Ramirez led the way on offense batting .556 (5-for-9) while homering in all three games. Overall Andrewjeski-Ramirez is batting .386 (56-for-145) with a team-best nine home runs and is hitting .579 (11-for-19, 2B, 3 HR, 9 RBI, 4 BB) in six postseason games.

Sophomore third baseman Maleah Andrews leads the team batting .475 overall (77-for-162) with a .585 on-base percentage to rank 4th in the nation. The consensus First Team All-West Region selection and D2CCA West Region Player of the year carries a streak of reaching base safely in 50 consecutive games into the Super Regional.

The Vikings are led by one of the best pitching staffs in the nation with the team boasting a 1.89 ERA to rank 9th and 1.09 WHIP to rank 11th in the nation. WWU features three pitchers with 100.0 or more innings pitched, led by sophomore All-West Region selection and GNAC Pitcher of the Year Kaiana Kong with a 12-0 record, 1.47 ERA and seven saves. Sophomore Alli Kimball (16-3, 1.93 ERA) and senior Joie Baker (14-7, 2.10 ERA) also garnered All-Region and All-GNAC honors to round out the starting group.

The Vikings offense averages 6.55 runs per game (16th in NCAA II) with a .336 batting average (15th in NCAA II), while the defense has maintained a .973 fielding percentage to rank No. 13 in the nation. WWU's defense has played error-free in 27 of 53 games, including 11 of the last 16 games.
