BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Western Washington University volleyball team as announced the addition of
Justice Magraw to the program as the lead assistant coach.
Magraw officially started her new position Monday joining the staff led by head coach
Diane Flick-Williams, who enters her 26th season leading the program in 2025.
"I could not be more excited to have Justice joining our WWU family and the volleyball program as an assistant coach," said Flick-Williams, who was also a product of UW as a player and coach. "She brings a variety of experiences, a wealth of knowledge and an energy that is infectious. She is a constant learner and approaches things with a great curiosity that takes you on the journey with her. Justice will have an immediate impact here and I'm grateful for the opportunity to work alongside her."
Magraw comes to WWU after serving four seasons in various roles for the University of Washington, most recently as an assistant coach for the Huskies in 2023-25. A former standout for the Huskies as a student-athlete in both indoor and beach volleyball, Magraw brings a wealth of volleyball knowledge as a player and coach to Bellingham.
At UW, Magraw worked closely with the back row, including serving and passing, which were key parts of the Huskies success over the last two seasons. In 2024 UW ranked third in the Big Ten averaging 1.62 aces per set. Magraw was heavily involved with alumni relations and team culture, and an integral part of opponent scouting preparing the team for matches. In her time on the UW coaching staff Magraw helped lead UW to three NCAA Tournament appearances. She helped head coach Leslie Gabriel lead the program in the transition from the Pac-12 to the Big Ten in 2024.
"Taking the role as the assistant coach at Western Washington is a step toward living out my values and expanding who I am and what kind of coach I want to be," said Magraw. "I'm eager to learn from Diane's extensive experience and consistent excellence, qualities that have consistently positioned Western as a top competitor in a highly competitive conference like the GNAC. From our initial conversations, it was clear we share a passion for creative coaching, prioritizing our student-athletes as people, and fostering the inherent joy of volleyball. The dedication and ownership I've already witnessed from the players and alumni are truly remarkable, and I'm particularly excited to contribute to this special culture, grow within my responsibilities and skills here, and get to recruit and coach close to home in Washington, while experiencing all the best of Bellingham and Western."
As a student-athlete Magraw was a defensive specialist for the Huskies, earning four varsity letters from 2012-15 as part of the winningest indoor class in school history going 117-16 (.880) with four consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament. She was also a member of the UW Beach Volleyball program and was named the 2016 Pac-12 Scholar Athlete of the Year for beach. Magraw graduated cum laude from UW with a degree in communications.
A native of Redmond, Magraw got her collegiate coaching start at the University of Portland serving as an assistant coach for indoor and beach from 2019-21. She began her coaching journey at the club level with Sudden Impact in Bellevue and in 2015 became the head varsity and junior varsity coach at The Overlake School from 2017-18, where she was selected as the Emerald City League Coach of the Year.
Magraw has strong ties to WWU with her mother and two grandparents graduating from Western. Her mother, Annette Duvall, was a standout for the women's soccer team in the 1980s, and was inducted into the WWU Athletics Hall of Fame in 1994.
