BELLINGHAM, Wash. – An All-American on the field and in the classroom.
Western Washington University sophomore third baseman
Maleah Andrews concluded a historic awards season earning Second Team Academic All-America honors selected by College Sports Communicators.
Andrews (Shoreline, WA/Bothell HS) carries a GPA of 3.83 while pursuing a degree in Public Health. Additional academic awards include GNAC Academic All-Star, Academic All-District and NFCA Scholar Athlete.
One of the toughest academic honors to achieve, Andrews becomes the 27th Academic All-American in WWU Athletics history (29th total award) and the first softball player to hold the title of Academic All-American.
On the field, Andrews was a consensus First Team All-American and All-West Region player and was the GNAC co-Player of the Year. She batted .473 (83-for-184) with 64 runs scored, 23 doubles, three triples, three home runs, 42 RBI and a .578 on-base percentage, and set the school record with a 56-game on-base streak. She helped lead the Vikings to a 47-13 overall record, the GNAC regular-season and tournament titles and a return trip to the NCAA II Softball National Championships in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
