Vikings Fall to Top-Ranked Colorado Mines 3-2

Emily Rice and Morgan Manalili score goals for the Vikings in narrow loss to Orediggers

GOLDEN, Colo. – The Western Washington University women's soccer team battled top-ranked Colorado School of Mines Wednesday in non-conference action, falling 3-2 at Stermole Soccer Stadium.

The back-and-forth game started early in the first half when the Vikings struck first in the 14th minute senior defender Emily Rice scored directly off her own corner kick to put Western up 1-0. The Orediggers wasted little time finding the equalizer with Caelan DeBolt finding the back of the net 44 seconds later.

WWU went up 2-1 early in the second half with another set-piece goal in the 52nd minute when senior midfielder Morgan Manalili connected on a header off another corner from Rice.

Mines equalized once again in the 57th minute when Bella Campos scored on a rebound and the Orediggers went up 3-2 in the 72nd minute on a tap-in by Natalie Mezarina.

WWU held a 22-14 advantage in total shots, with Manalili tallying 10 shots for the most by a Viking since Jenna Killman also had 10 in 2021 vs. Central Washington. Playing against her twin sister Kaitlyn for the fourth time, Manalili scored her 19th career goal.
