Vikings Drop Road Game at Stanislaus State

Frank Miedema scores Western's goal in second half

TURLOCK, Calif. – The Western Washington University men's soccer team completed its season-opening road trip with a 4-1 loss against Stanislaus State University Saturday evening at Warrior Stadium.

The Vikings trailed 1-0 at the half and conceded an early second-half goal to go down 2-0. Senior forward Frank Miedema pulled the Vikings back to within a goal in the 72nd minute one-timing his shot in front of the goal off a cross by freshman Landon Schulze.

With WWU trailing 2-1 looking for an equalizer, the Warriors quickly added on scoring a pair of goals less than a minute apart in the 76th and 77th minutes to put the game away for the 4-1 win to improve to 2-0-0 on the season.

Western finished its trip to Chico State (1-1 tie) and Stanislaus State (4-1 loss) going 0-1-1.

Stanislaus State held a 17-7 advantage in total shots and 7-4 edge in shots on goal. Senior defender Samuel Villanueva had a trio of assists and junior forward/midfielder Emmanuel Duran recorded a brace to lead the Warriors.
