Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Jeff Evans, Assistant AD for Athletic Communications

Winning Ways Continue With Dominating Home Victory Over SPU

WWU notches seventh consecutive victory defeating Seattle Pacific 72-43

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – With the postseason on the horizon, the Western Washington University women's basketball is heating up recording its seventh consecutive victory with a 72-43 win over Seattle Pacific University Thursday evening on WECU Court in Carver Gym.

The Vikings used the same recipe that has propelled the team to a 10-1 record in the last 11 games – defense, balance scoring and a lot of senior forward Olivia Hodges.

WWU held the Falcons to 15 first-half points and a 19.6 field goal percentage for the game in the 29-point victory to improve to 22-6 on the season and pulled into a first-place tie with Central Washington at 14-3 in GNAC play with one regular-season game remaining. The Vikings remained unbeaten in Carver Gym at 10-0 this season and have won 12 consecutive games on WECU Court dating back to last season.

Hodges tallied her 20th double-double of the season with 21 points and 12 rebounds (and 4 blocks) to tie for the most double-doubles in NCAA Division II this season. The senior All-America candidate was 6-for-9 from the field and nearly perfect 9-for-10 from the free throw line. Hodges is one double-double shy of the school record of 21 set by Gina Sampson in 1995-96.

Junior guard Libby Stump added 10 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals in 24 minutes and freshman guard Eden Sander equaled her career high with 10 points and added seven rebounds.

WWU shot 44.4-percent for the game (24-for-54) and was 6-for-13 from beyond the three-point arc.

SPU (7-19, 4-13) was led by a career-high 11 points from Cascadia Yates and eight points and four steals by Haylie-Anne Ohta.
