ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Led by a career-high 24 kills from senior pin hitter Delaney Speer, the No. 20 nationally ranked Western Washington University volleyball team completed a 2-1 start to the 2026 season with a 3-1 victory over San Francisco State at the CWU Invitational.

Coming off a reverse-sweep 3-2 victory over Chaminade on Friday, the Vikings earned their second consecutive victory with a 28-26, 25-22, 23-25, 25-19 win over the Gators.

"This was a great weekend for us as we are still figuring it with a young group," said WWU head coach Diane Flick-Williams. "I am excited to get back in the gym, work through some kinks, and build for next weekend."

Speer recorded a double-double in each match, adding 10 blocks for her eighth consecutive double-double going back to the end of last season. Speer also tied for the team high with three service aces to finish with 28.5 points.

"Delaney was such a presence and so reliable," said Flick-Williams. "They threw three blockers at her and she still found a way. She kept us steady while others came with her."

Coming off a near-record-breaking 15-block performance against Chaminade, senior middle Emily Vossenkuhl had another stellar match with 10 kills on a .471 hitting percentage, adding seven blocks for 14.0 points. Senior libero Finnley Claeys anchored the defense with 24 digs and sophomore defensive/serve specialist Chayse Flick-Williams had three aces and a career-high 19 digs.

The setter duo of senior Caroline Hansen (21 assists, 9 digs) and freshman Maya Quitiquit (23 assists, 10 digs) guided the Vikings offense in the victory.

Grace Witcher led San Francisco State (0-3) with 24 kills on a .400 hitting percentage, adding nine digs and two aces for 27.0 points.

The Vikings (2-1) remain on the road next week with three matches at the Bronco Classic hosted by Cal Poly Pomona in Southern California. WWU faces No. 25 Cal State San Bernardino, host Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State LA in the three-day tournament held in Kellogg Arena.
