POMONA, Calif. – No. 24 Western Washington University volleyball team dropped a non-conference match to No. 23 Cal State San Bernardino 3-0 on Thursday during the first day of the Bronco Classic inside Kellogg Arena.

The Vikings (2-2) were held to 20 kills and a .099 hitting percentage, while the Coyotes finished with 47 kills and hit .381 to remain perfect at 5-0 during the early part of the 2026 season.

The Vikings were even at 2-2 on Emily Vossenkuhl's kill from Maya Quitiquit, and a Quinn Pedersen block put the Vikings ahead 3-2 before the Coyotes answered with four straight points for a 6-3 lead. The Coyotes extended the margin with service pressure, using two aces by Kacie Pedersen to move in front 9-4 and later scoring six straight points to reach 17-6. The Vikings put together a four-point stretch late in the set, with Vossenkuhl's block, two Caroline Hansen aces and a Pedersen kill cutting the score to 21-12. The Coyotes responded with the next point and closed the set with kills on the final three points to take it 25-13.

The second set was level early, with Hansen's ace tying it 3-3 before kills by Vossenkuhl and Hansen pulled the Vikings even again at 4-4 and 5-5. The Coyotes scored the next five points to move in front 10-5, but after they later led 12-7, Delaney Speer put down a kill and Dani Turcinecserved back-to-back aces to cut the margin to 12-10. The Coyotes answered with two points, and after Speer's kill made it 14-11, the Coyotes scored the final 11 points to take the set 25-11.

The Vikings opened the third set with a Jasmine Terry kill and a Coyotes attack error, and after the Coyotes moved ahead 3-2, Terry helped the Vikings push back in front 6-3. The Coyotes tied it at 6-6, and after Speer's ace gave the Vikings a 9-8 lead, the Coyotes used kills by Pedersen and M'Kera Drake around a Vikings setting error to go ahead 13-9. The Vikings got kills from Pedersen and Aly Skagen to stay within 15-11, but the Coyotes stretched the margin to 21-11 with a run that included two Sarai Ross kills and a Kisa Sagiao kill. Terry and Pedersen added late kills for the Vikings before the Coyotes closed the set 25-15 on a Vikings attack error.

The Vikings achieved a season-high of six serve aces, led by three from Hansen and a pair from Turcinec. Terry led the team with six kills and freshman teammate Pedersen recorded five kills in her collegiate debut.
