AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 24 nationally ranked Western Washington University men's soccer team recorded a 2-0 shutout victory on the road Wednesday evening against St. Edward's University Lewis-Chen Family Field.

WWU improved to 5-1-1 overall receiving second-half goals from sophomore forward Tommy Carroll and junior midfielder Lunden Fenster. St. Edward's continued its tough non-conference schedule beating No. 20 Cal State Dominguez Hills (3-0) and tying Cal Poly Pomona (1-1), but didn't have an answer for the Vikings strong second-half performance falling to 1-2-2 on the season.

The Vikings broke the scoreless tie in the 66th minute to go up 1-0. Defender Jack Haegele intercepted a St. Edward's throw-in and headed it to junior midfielder Lunden Fenster, who cut the ball out wide to sophomore midfielder Landon Schulze. After a move to elude his defender inside the box, Schulze crossed the ball into the middle where sophomore forward Tommy Carroll one-timed it into the back of the net with his right foot.

WWU added an insurance goal in the 86th minute to put the game away to record the team's fifth victory of the season. Sophomore midfielder Jullian Herring danced through the Hilltoppers defense finding junior Rudy Silva with an outside-the-foot pass, with Silva finding Fenster with a perfectly placed cross near the far post for the close-quarter tap-in finish Fenster's third goal of the season.

SEU held a slim 15-14 advantage in total shots, while the Vikings edged the Hilltoppers 5-4 in shots on goal. WWU junior goalkeeper Quinn Sappington made four saves to record the clean sheet, his second of the season.

"I thought we had one of our best performances as a group tonight," said WWU head coach Greg Brisbon. "A complete team effort – solid defending from everyone when it mattered. It took us a little bit to get going in the attack but ended up creating 5-6 really good chances and was able to convert on two of them."

The Vikings (5-1-1, 0-0-0 GNAC) conclude their Texas trip playing at Dallas Baptist (3-2-1) on Friday with kickoff scheduled for 7 pm CT/5 pm PT. The game will stream live via pay-per-view at FloCollege. The complete 2026 schedule can be viewed online via wwuvikings.com/MSOC.

WWU is 1-1-1 three games into a string of six consecutive road games after opening the season with four straight at Harrington Field (4-0-0) … in seven games Landon Schulze and Lunden Fenster are tied for the team lead with nine points, each recording three goals and three assists … Schulze has contributed on at least one goal in each of the last five games … sophomore defender Sam Hough played the full 90 for the fourth time this season and leads the team playing in 595 minutes … WWU is 2-0-0 all-time vs. St. Edward's, adding Wednesday's 2-0 victory to last year's home 3-1 win in Bellingham … head coach Greg Brisbon is 116-77-37 in his career at the helm of the program … WWU closes out its non-conference schedule Friday at DBU prior to entering the GNAC slate.
