DALLAS, Texas – The Western Washington University men's soccer team completed its 11-day road trip to Colorado and Texas with a 2-1 loss Friday night against Dallas Baptist University.

The No. 24 nationally ranked Vikings got off to a great start scoring in the opening three minutes at the 2:31 mark but was held off the scoreboard the remainder of the game to drop to 5-2-1 overall. DBU improved to 4-2-1 overall with its first home victory over a ranked opponent in program history.

The Vikings shrugged off the 93-degree weather at kickoff with an opening goal less than three minutes into the match. Goalkeeper Charlie Dyer had a quick restart on a goal kick that funneled to defender Jack Haegele, who sent a long ball over a pushed up DBU backline. Midfielder Landon Schulze ran the ball down at the top of the 18-yard box and crossed the ball streaking forward Tommy Carroll, who finished with his right foot from 6-yards out for his third goal of the season.

The Patriots equalized in the 29th minute on a free kick goal by Caden Berg. WWU defender Sam Hough was called for a foul on the edge of the 18-yard box and Berg connected on shot eluding Dyer.

DBU forged ahead with less than 24 minutes remaining in the contest when Erik Olivera collected a misplay by Dyer and had an open-net finish to put the Patriots ahead 2-1 at the 66:30 mark.

The Vikings battled until the end looking for the late equalizer with four of the final five shots of the game, including a late shot by junior Ezrah Ochoa that was blocked by the DBU defense.

DBU had a 19-9 advantage in total shots and 8-4 in shots on goal.

With its tough early season non-conference schedule completed – featuring wins over a pair of top five nationally ranked opponents – Western turns its attention to the start of conference play next week with GNAC road games at Saint Martin's and Western Oregon.

The Vikings (5-2-1, 0-0-0 GNAC) open GNAC play next weekend remaining on the road traveling to play at Saint Martin's in Lacey on Thursday (2 pm) and Western Oregon on Saturday (10 am).
