ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Western Washington University volleyball team dropped a five-set thriller against the University of Alaska Anchorage on Thursday evening in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.
WWU dropped its second consecutive five-set match to fall to 5-5 overall and 2-2 in GNAC play. UAA improved to 10-5 overall, 3-2 in conference matches and 6-0 inside the Alaska Airlines Center. Set scores were 19-25, 29-27, 28-26, 21-25, 17-15 in favor of the Seawolves, with three of the five sets going into extra points.
The back-and-forth match featured 48 tie scores and 24 lead changes with the Seawolves fending off a pair of match points for Western. UAA ended the deciding fifth set on a 5-1 run to take the match.
WWU was led by a career-high 25 kills from senior pin hitter Delaney Speer, adding 16 digs for her sixth double-double of the season. Sophomore Chayse Flick-Williams recorded her second consecutive five-ace performance and contributed a career-high 30 digs. Freshman Jasmine Terry recorded 12 kills and six blocks, and senior Emily Vossenkuhl tallied six blocks.
UAA was led by a 25-kill, 24-dig double-double from Lee Ivakina on a .305 hitting percentage and 19 kills and 16 digs by Kyana Gabriel.
