Madeline Mays has been named the D2CIDA Women's Soccer National Player of the Week for her performance during the week of September 21-27.
Mays (Oak Harbor, WA) added to her list of weekly awards after taking home the GNAC Offensive Player of the Week honor and the Vikings were selected as the GNAC Team of the Week.
Mays (Oak Harbor, WA) scored five of the Vikings six goals during a 2-0-0 performance during the second week of the conference schedule. She opened her collegiate scoring account with a hat trick to fuel WWU's 3-0 win over MSUB on Thursday and added a first-half brace in another 3-0 win over No. 23 nationally ranked Seattle Pacific.
Mays recorded the game-winning goal in both games, helping the Vikings improve to 5-1-3 on the season overall and 3-0-1 in GNAC play to rise to the top of the table. WWU re-entered the national coaches poll at No. 17 in the recent edition released Tuesday. WWU is back on the road this week traveling to play at Western Oregon on Thursday in Monmouth (2 pm) and Saint Martin's on Saturday in Lacey (3:30 pm).
National Players of the Week are selected by a volunteer committee of Division II Conference Information Directors from a pool of nominations submitted by conference offices.
