The 2022-23 season marked the seventh season David Dunham served as the head assistant basketball coach at WWU (hired April 11, 2016). In seven seasons in his current role, Dunham has helped guide the Vikings to a pair of GNAC Championships, winning the 2016-17 regular-season and conference championships title, and being crowned as the GNAC Tournament champions in 2019-20.
During Dunham's seven seasons as WWU's lead assistant coach, the Vikings have compiled an overall 110-66 record for a .625winning percentage, with a 70-45 mark in conference play. During his time at WWU there have been 18 GNAC Player of the Week selections.
Dunham was recognized by Silver Waves Media as one of the 50-most impactful NCAA Division II Assistant Coaches.
Dunham has patrolled the sidelines for the Vikings in a pair of GNAC Championship seasons. In his first season in 2016-17 the Vikings went 25-6 overall and were 17-3 in GNAC play. That squad won the GNAC Championships to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Championships as the No. 3 seed. The 2019-20 Vikings entered the GNAC Championships as the No. 2 seed and prevailed to win the title to earn another automatic bid to the NCAA II Championships.

Prior to joining the WWU coaching staff, Dunham was the head coach at Whatcom Community College for three seasons from 2013-16. He led the Orcas to an overall record of 48-37 (.565) at WCC with a pair of playoff appearances. WCC played for the NWAC championship in 2015-16 falling to Spokane 91-84. In 2013-14 he was selected as the NWAC North Region Coach of the Year. He also served as WCC’s top assistant for 10 seasons helping lead the Orcas to a North Region record 10 consecutive postseason appearances.
Was the assistant coach at Independence High School in San Jose, Calif., for two seasons … earned bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from Lewis-Clark State College, playing one season for the Warriors (1993-94) … also played two seasons at Golden West Junior College in Huntington Beach, Calif., where he was a first-team Orange Coast League selection as a sophomore … graduate of Pasadena High School, helping team to the CIF semifinals and the state No. 1 ranking as a senior … he and his wife, Meghan (Valenti), have three children: son Stefon and daughters Hayden and Quinn.
