POMONA, Calif. - Western Washington University allowed 100 points for the third straight game as it fell to defending NCAA Division II West Region champion and nationally ranked Cal Poly Pomona, 100-91, in a non-conference men's basketball game Wednesday at Kellogg Gym.
The Vikings, who fell to 6-2, were led by guard Jason Burrell (Sr., Ontario, CA), who scored a career-high 28 points. Forward Grant Dykstra (So., Everson/Lynden Christian) added 22 points.
Cal Poly Pomona, ranked No.5 in the NABC/Division II Bulletin Preseason Poll, improved to 4-3. The Broncos, who had five players score in double figures, got 21 points from forward Jeff Bonds and 20 from guard Jonathan Williams, who made 5-of-7 3-pointers.
It is the first time in school history that the Vikings have given up 100 points in three straight games. The only time that had happened in two consecutive games was in 2001-02.
Cal Poly Pomona shot 59.3 percent (35-of-59) from the field, 65.6 percent (21-of-32) in a 61-point second half. The Broncos were 9-of-15 (60.0 percent) from 3-point range, hitting 7-of-9 in the second period.
"We got down, so we had to gamble," said Western coach Brad Jackson. "We had some runs and got it down to seven a few times in the second half, but it seemed they always responded with a 3-pointer."

Burrell was 7-of-9 from the floor and 13-of-15 at the free throw line.

The Broncos increased their advantage to as many as 18 points, 62-44, with 12 minutes left in the game following a 16-7 run. Western cut the deficit to seven points on four occasions, the last, 85-78, with 2:47 remaining.
