BELLINGHAM, Wash. – With their backs against the wall, the Western Washington University men's basketball team stepped up in a big way defeating No. 18 nationally ranked Saint Martin's University 90-81 on Senior Night in Carver Gym.
The Vikings kept their postseason hopes alive with the eight-point victory over the Saints improving to 12-14 overall and 6-9 in GNAC play. With three regular-season games remaining, WWU is in 8th place in the GNAC standings at 6-9, just out of one of the six playoff spots for the conference tournament that will be held in Bellingham March 5-7.
WWU snapped a three-game losing streak with a big second half performance, out-scoring SMU 51-38. The game featured 11 lead changes and nine tie scores, with the Vikings overcoming an eight-point deficit with 5:54 remaining in the game to record the second win over a nationally ranked opponent this season.
