BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Forward Craig Roosendaal, who was named Most Valuable Player of the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC) Northern Division for the 2002-03 season, has signed a national letter of intent to play men's basketball at Western Washington University. Making that announcement was Vikings' coach Brad Jackson.
The 6-foot-7 Roosendaal averaged 17.5 points on 55.0 percent field goal shooting and 6.4 rebounds as a sophomore, leading the Tritons to a 22-8 record and the NWAACC tournament. He scored a career-high 32 points in an 82-80 overtime win over Lane CC in the first round of that tourney.
Roosendaal played in the NWAACC North-South all-star game, helping the North squad to a 101-95 victory with 19 points. He also was the MVP of the Blue Mountain CC Tournament won by Edmonds, averaging 23.7 points in three games, and was an all-tourney choice at the Edmonds CC Turkey Shootout.
Roosendaal averaged 12.5 points as a freshman, helping the Tritons tie for the Northern Division title and reach the NWAACC tourney.
As a senior at Kings High School, Roosendaal was named the Associated Press Class 1A state Player of the Year and MVP of the Chinook League as he led the Knights to the state championship, averaging 16.5 points and 9.5 rebounds.
Western returns three starters from last year's 16-11 team. Three frontcourt players are graduating from that squad - 6-10 all-star center Mike Palm, 6-9 backup post player Chris Stevens and 6-4 forward Nehemiah Campbell.
