Anchorage, Alaska -- Emily Castro (Jr., Bellingham/Meridian) had a match-high 18 kills to lead four Vikings in double figures as Western Washington University claimed a 30-24, 20-30, 30-15, 30-16 victory over University of Alaska Anchorage in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball match Saturday.
The triumph was the eighth straight for Western, which improved to 15-5 overall and remained in second place in the GNAC at 11-1. Jaime Anderson (Jr., SeaTac/Mount Rainier) added 16 kills and 11 digs for the Vikings, who have won 13 of their last 14 matches.
UAA fell to 5-17 overall, 2-11 in conference play. Chelsey Jones, Kim Stolk and Jessica Morehouse each had eight kills for the Seawolves.
The Vikings had 11 service aces, with setter Katie Robinson (Jr., Everson/Nooksack Valley) having four. Robinson also had 58 assists.
"Katie distributed the ball to the right people," said Western coach Diane Flick. "She also helped us build momentum with her serving."
Outside hitter Marissa Hill (So., North Bend/Mount Si) had 13 kills for the second straight match and middle blocker Tiana Roma (So., Edmonds/Edmonds-Woodway) added 12 for the Vikings.
"Anchorage is a very tough place to play," said Western coach Diane Flick. "We did a good job in the second half of the match being composed and sticking to the basics."
Libero Courtney Schneider (Jr., Snohomish) had a match-high 27 digs for the Vikings.
Western returns home to host Northwest Nazarene in a GNAC match Thursday (7 p.m.).
