SEATTLE, Wash. - Outside hitter Jaime Anderson (Jr., SeaTac/Mount Rainier) had a match-high 12 kills with a .346 attack percentage and 15 digs and libero Courtney Schneider (Jr., Snohomish) had a match-high 29 digs as Western Washington University swept Seattle University, 30-27, 30-22, 30-28, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball match Thursday at Connolly Center.
The Vikings improved to 7-4 overall and 3-0 in league play with their fifth straight victory, the last four by sweeps.
Seattle suffered just its fourth loss in 13 matches this season and fell to 0-2 in the GNAC. The Redhawks got team highs of 11 kills from Nikole Thompson and 28 digs from Melissa Mulick.
"We really had a balanced attack tonight," said Western coach Diane Flick. "Our outside hitters had 21 kills and our middles had 18, many of them with really high percentages."
Western also got 10 kills and 11 digs from Marissa Hill (So., North Bend/Mount Si) and Tiana Roma (So., Edmonds/Edmonds-Woodway) contributed 10 kills.
Schneider upped her three-year career dig total to 1,425. She needs 11 more to break the school record of 1,435 held by Nicola Parker (2000-03).
Western scored six straight points, five on the serve of Angie Alvord (So., Laurel/Meridian), to take a 21-15 lead in game one and held on as the Redhawks twice pulled to within one point.
The second game was tied 16-16, but Western used a 7-3 run to pull away. Neither team ever led by more than three in the third game, with the Vikings closing out the match with back-to-back kills by Roma and Anderson.
Western is at Seattle Pacific on Saturday (7 p.m.) for a GNAC counter.
