Brown is first-team Daktronics West Region All-Star

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University sophomore midfielder Kellan Brown (Tacoma/Bellarmine Prep) was a first-team choice on the 2009 Daktronics NCAA Division II West Region All-Star Team announced today.

Two Vikings were selected to the second team, sophomore midfielder Oscar Jimenez (Mount Vernon) and freshman defender Chris Brundage (Gig Harbor/Peninsula).

Brown led Western in points with 25 and goals with 10. He also had five assists to tie for team-high honors with Jimenez, who had six goals.

Brundage was a key figure on a defense that allowed 1.88 goals against per game and posted three shutouts.

All three players were first-team Great Northwest Athletic Conference all-stars with Brundage being the GNAC co-Freshman of the Year.

Montana State Billings forward Sam Charles was the Daktronics Player of the Year.

Western had an 8-11-1 record, going undefeated in its last four games (3-0-1), and placed second in the GNAC at 5-3-0.

ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Montana State Billings senior forward Sam Charles has been named Player of the Year, highlighting the 2009 Daktronics NCAA Division II West Region Men's Soccer teams released Wednesday.

Cal State Dominguez Hills, from the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), had a total of five players earn all-region honors, including two on the first team and three on the second team. Two other CCAA teams -- Sonoma State and Cal State L.A. -- notched four all-region selections; both teams had three first team nods.

Charles, a native of Chiswell, England, broke the Great Northwest Athletic Conference record for most goals scored in a season with 24. He scored a goal in a conference-record nine consecutive matches this season and recorded a point in 15 consecutive matches helping Montana State Billings to a 11-5-2 record, the second best finish in school history. Charles was named GNAC Player of the Year for the second time in his career and was a three-time GNAC first team all-conference selection.
