BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Forward Rory Blanche (Jr., Ashland, OR) had a game-high 15 points on 7-of-8 field-goal shooting to lead eight Vikings in double figures as Western Washington University rolled to a 109-49 victory over Quest University, B.C., in a men's basketball exhibition contest Monday at Sam Carver Gymnasium on the WWU campus.
Forward Zach Henifin (Jr., Bellingham) had 14 points for Western, which shot 61.8 percent (42-of-68) from the field. Forward Michael Duty (Sr., Seattle/O'Dea) and guard Dane Thorpe (R-Fr., Bellingham/Sehome) each had 13 points for the Vikings.
John Pankratz led Quest with 14 points, scoring the Kermodes' first 10 points of the game. Jose Colorado added 10 points.
Western never trailed, jumping to an 8-0 lead and extending the margin to 32-10 with 10:38 left in the first half. The Vikings held a 53-22 lead at halftime, and never led by less than 50 points through the final eight minutes.
Centers Chris Mitchell (So., Everson/Nooksack Valley) and Dan Young (Jr., Federal Way/Lakewood) and guard Shedrick Nelson (Jr., Tacoma/Wilson) each had 12 points for the Vikings. Guard John Allen (So., Brier/Mountlake Terrace) added 10 points and a game-high five assists, scoring all of his points in the first four minutes.
Quest, located in Squamish, B.C., shot just 29.5 percent (18-of-61) from the field and committed 26 turnovers.
