BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Midfielder Sean Conner (Sr., Mount Vernon) scored in the 26th minute, but it wasn't enough as Western Washington University fell to Montana State University Billings, 3-1, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference men's soccer contest Thursday at Orca Field on the Whatcom CC campus.

The Vikings, who have lost three of their last four games, fell to 5-7-0 overall and remained fourth in the GNAC at 3-3-0.

MSUB improved to 6-7-0 overall and 2-4-0 in GNAC play. Thomas Sheets had a goal and an assist for the Yellowjackets, who won their fourth straight game.

MSUB opened the scoring just three minutes into the game, as Tyler Moriarity finished after being set up by Sheets and Garion Holian. But the Vikings equalized in the 25th minute, as Connor put a free kick from 23 yards over the wall and just inside the left post.

The Yellowjackets got the go-ahead goal in the 61st minute. A failed clearance popped to Hakkon Taylor 12 yards out to the left of goal, and Taylor, a Sehome High graduate, finished low to the far post. Sheets then added an insurance goal in the 88th minute with a rocket from 15 yards out as Holian got his second assist of the day.

Western had a 13-10 advantage in shot attempts, including an 8-4 edge in the first half.

The Vikings entertain Northwest Nazarene on Saturday (7 p.m.) in a GNAC counter.
