BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Forward Tyler Schultz converted a penalty kick in the 85th minute as Seattle Pacific University blanked Western Washington University, 1-0, on Wednesday night in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference men's soccer contest at Orca Field on the campus of Whatcom CC.

The loss snapped a two-game winning streak for the Vikings, who dropped to 3-4-0 overall and 2-2-0 in conference play.

SPU, which extended its winning streak to six games, improved to 6-1-1 overall and 3-0-0 in GNAC play. The Falcons have not allowed a goal in their three league victories.

Schultz's goal, his seventh of the season and his third game-winner, came shortly after Western's best chance of the game, when a Jin Dangvan (Jr., Vancouver/Mountain View) shot from 10 yards forced SPU's Zach Johnson to make a diving save. The Falcons then counter attacked, and a hand ball in the penalty area led to Schultz placing his kick low to the right corner.

"We played hard, but not our best soccer, and against a good team, you need to have that," said Western coach Travis Connell. "It was unfortunate the way we lost, but we needed to do more tonight."

Seattle Pacific had a 20-10 advantage in shots, including an 11-4 margin in the first half.

The loss snapped a three-game unbeaten (2-0-1) streak in the series for Western, which was 4-2-2 in the previous eight meetings.

The Vikings host Saint Martin's on Saturday (6 p.m.) in a GNAC counter.
