Results

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Western Washington University's Jake Webb (Sr., Issaquah/Skyline) is tied for second in medalist play and the Vikings are third in the team standings following 36 holes Monday at the University of Indianapolis Brickyard Crossing Men's Golf Invitational being held at the Brickyard Crossing Golf Club.

Tuesday's final round begins at 8 a.m.

The Vikings ranked No.9 in the Golf World/Nike Golf/NCAA Division II College Coaches Association of America Top 25 Preseason Poll, had season-opening rounds of 292 and 283 for a 1-under par 575 total.

No.1-rated Nova Southeastern dominated the first day, shooting 15-under 561 (275-286) after opening with a 13-under 275. The Sharks hold a six-stroke lead over No.2 Barry, which shot at 9-under 567.

"We had a pretty solid day overall," said WWU coach Steve Card (20th year). "Everybody contributed. It was nice to get off to a good start on a pretty challenging golf course with some of the best teams in the country here."

"The wind is supposed to blow a little bit tomorrow, so I expect the scores will be a little bit higher. If we had a good ball-striking day, we might be able to move up."

Webb had rounds of 70 and 68 for a 6-under 138 and is tied with Barry's Berry Jole (70-68). Nova Southeastern's Ben Taylor holds five-stroke advantage at 133, opening with a 7-under 65, the best round of the day.

WWU's Dylan Goodwin (Sr., Mukilteo/Kamiak) is in a four-way tie for 19th at 145 (75-70) , Mark Strickland (So., Mukilteo/Kamiak) is in a three-way tie for 23rd at 146 (75-71), Sandy Vaughan (Sr., Seattle/O'Dea) is in a six-way tie for 43rd at 150 (72-78) and Kyle Schrader (So., Olympia/Tumwater) is in a two-way tie for 77th at 160 (86-74).

Nine of the 16 participating teams competed at last year's national tournament.
