WWU loses 2-0 at No.9 Simon Fraser

BURNABY, B.C. - Western Washington University's six-game unbeaten streak came to an end as the Vikings fell 2-0 to nationally ranked Simon Fraser University on Saturday in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference men's soccer contest at Terry Fox Field on the SFU campus.

The Vikings, whose unbeaten 3-0-3 run was the longest since 2007, fell to 5-3-3 overall and 3-1-3 in the GNAC.

Simon Fraser, which was ranked No.1 nationally for the first four weeks of the season and is now No.9 in National Soccer Coaches Association of America/NCAA Division II Top 25, improved to 10-1-0 overall and 6-1-0 in conference play. The Clan won their 10th straight home match over the last two seasons.

Alexander Kleefelt opened the scoring for SFU in the 12th minute, heading home a cross from Alex Rowley. Chopin Jules added an insurance goal, intercepting a pass deep in the WWU end and scoring 14 minutes into the second half.

Simon Fraser had a 16-6 advantage in shots. Goalkeeper Keegan Rogers (Jr., Portland, OR/Portland Christian) had six saves for the Vikings.

The Clan holds a 35-14-4 series advantage over WWU, being unbeaten (8-0-1) in the last nine meetings.

WWU returns to action on Thurs., Oct. 17 (5:30 p.m.), visiting South Dakota School of Mines in Sioux Falls, S.D., for a GNAC contest.
