BURNABY, B.C. - Western Washington University managed just seven hits as it fell 7-2 and 7-0 to Simon Fraser University in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference softball doubleheader Sunday at Beedie Field.

The Vikings dropped to 12-10 overall and 4-4 in league action. They had five hits in the opener, two of them by Jordan Walley (Fr., Maple Valley/Tahoma) and just two in the nightcap.

Simon Fraser, which improved to 11-9 overall and 7-0 in conference play, was led by Alex Baylak, who was 3-for-6 in the two games, driving in five runs and scoring three, and Mackenzie Bender, who drove in five runs in the first contest.

Bender hit a grand-slam home run in the second inning of the opener and had a run-scoring single in the Clans' three-run third.

Baylak rapped a two-run single in that same frame and had a three-run homer in the third inning of the nightcap as SFU scored six runs.

Pitcher Cara Lukawesky got the win for SFU in the opener, giving up one earned run and striking out seven.

Kelsie Hawkins threw a shutout for the Clan in the nightcap, allowing just two fifth-inning singles. She struck out 10, retiring eight straight to start and finish the game.

The Vikings' Alexie Levin (Fr., Everett) had a single in her only at bat in the first game, but was held hitless in the second as her hitting streak ended at 13 games,

WWU is on the road for two more GNAC twinbills this weekend, going to Saint Martin's on Saturday, March 23 (12 noon), and to Western Oregon on Sunday, March 24 (1 p.m.).
