Oct. 16, 2014

Box Score

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Tye Hastings (Sr., Mill Creek/Jackson), Chad Radulovich (So., San Ramon, CA/California) and Luke Olney(Fr., Enumclaw) each scored as Western Washington University blanked Saint Martin's University, 3-0, on Thursday, Oct. 16, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference men's soccer contest at Robert S. Harrington Field on the WWU campus.

It was the fourth straight win for the Vikings, who improved to 6-5-1 overall and 4-2-1 in GNAC action. The first three victories of that stretch had come on the road. Saint Martin's, who lost their fifth straight, fell to 2-10-0 overall and 2-6-0 in GNAC play.

Hastings opened the scoring in the 17th minute, taking a pass over the top from Dan Anderson (Jr., Sandpoint, ID) and blasting home from just inside the penalty area, enabling the Vikings to hold a 1-0 lead at halftime.

Radulovich doubled the margin in the 56th minute, getting behind the defense off a pass from Derek Zimmerman (So., Pasco) and chipping the goalkeeper from a tight angle on the right.

Olney completed the scoring with less than three minutes left. A ball off the crossbar deflected off the Saint Martin's keeper, and Olney tapped the ball in from the goalmouth.

Olney leads the Viking scorers with nine points this season, three goals and three assists.

"I was really pleased with our defense tonight," said WWU coach Greg Brisbon. "We've been working on pressing as a team and we did it well tonight. Plus we had some guys get goals, which took the pressure off the defense."

WWU goalkeeper Keegan Rogers (Sr., Portland, OR/Portland Christian) made four saves in registering his third shutout of the campaign. He now has 15 shutouts during his four-year career, second in school history and three shy of the WWU record.

The Vikings had a 23-10 advantage in shot attempts, with Hastings taking 11 of them and putting five on target.

WWU entertains nationally No.4-ranked and GNAC-leading Seattle Pacific on Saturday, Oct. 18 (7 p.m.).
