BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Chad Radulovich (So., San Ramon, CA/California) scored a pair of goals and
Luke Olney(Fr., Enumclaw) had three assists, leading Western Washington University to a 4-0 victory over South Dakota Mines School of Mines on Thursday, Oct. 30, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference men's soccer contest at Harrington Field on the WWU campus.
It was the sixth triumph in the last eight games for the Vikings, who improved to 8-7-1 overall and 6-5-1 in the GNAC.
SD Mines fell to 1-15-0 overall and 0-12-0 in conference play.
Radulovich opened the scoring in the 30th minute, finishing from 18 yards out off assists from Olney and Tye Hastings (Sr., Mill Creek/Jackson). Less than four minutes later, Caden Sowers (Jr., Ferndale) doubled the margin, scoring with his first touch from eight yards after receiving a deflected ball from Matt Temple (Jr., Beaverton, OR).
Radulovich notched his second goal in the 54th minute, taking a pass from Olney and hitting a low blast from just outside the penalty area. Hastings then completed the scoring in the 80th minute, sliding in the goal box to finish a low cross from the right by Conner Pichette (So., Tacoma/Wilson), who had been played to the end line by Olney.
"It was a good effort, a lot of guys got to play," said WWU coach Greg Brisbon. "We had good buildup play and Chad scored a couple nice goals. All the finishes were good ones."
The four goals were the most for WWU since the second game of the 2013 season and no Viking had been credited with three assists since Gibson Bardsley performed the feat four years ago to the day in a 7-0 home win over Northwest Nazarene.
The two goals by Radulovich brought his season total to four, all of them in the last six games; and Olney now has a team-leading assist total of seven.
Keegan Rogers (Sr., Portland, OR/Portland Christian) made two saves in earning the shutout, the toughest when he tipped a shot by Luke Schroeder over the bar in the 87th minute.
It was the fourth shutout of the season for Rogers. His 16 career shutouts rank second in school history, two short of the WWU record.
The Vikings entertain University of Mary on Saturday, Nov. 1 (7 p.m.) in a GNAC counter. It will be the final home game for six WWU seniors.
