Chris Hatch (So., Mukilteo/Kamiak) is 10th in medalist play as the Vikings are fourth among seven teams following two rounds Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Golfweek DII Fall Invitational taking place at the Sunriver Resort Crosswater Club course.
WWU posted rounds of 287 and 293 for a 36-hole total of 580, 12 strokes out of first.
Simon Fraser shot an afternoon round of 276, the best of the day, and leads the team standings at 8-under par 568. Cal State Stanislaus is second, two shots behind, at 570 (281-289), and Dallas Baptist is third at 576 (284-292).
"Our starts in both rounds today hurt us," said WWU coach Luke Bennett. "But it's there for the taking. The course is amazing and the weather is perfect."
Strickland opened with a 4-under 68 in the morning and shot 73 in the afternoon for a 3-under 141. Hatch totaled 143 with rounds of 71 and 72.
The Vikings' Kyle Schrader (Sr., Olympia/Tumwater) is tied for 14th at 145 (72-73), Brennan Emory (So., Mount Vernon) is tied for 26th at 152 (77-75) and Anthony Allen (So., Arlington) is 30th at 153 (76-77).
Leading the medalist standings at 5-under 139 (70-69) is Anthony Manguray from Cal State Stanislaus. Tied with Strickland for second are Kyle Beard from Dallas Baptist (67-74) and Simon Fraser's Kevin Vigna (72-69) and Bret Thompson (71-70).
Sunday's final round begins at 9 a.m.
