OLYMPIA, Wash. - Anthony Allen (So., Arlington) tied for medalist honors, leading Western Washington University to a six-stroke victory at the Saint Martin's University Invitational Men's Golf Tournament which ended Saturday at the Olympia Country Club.
The Vikings shot an even par 284 for a 54-hole total of 838. Simon Fraser was second at 844 (285) and British Columbia third at 850 (286) in the 14-team field.
"This was a phenomenal start for us," said WWU coach Luke Bennett. "I couldn't be happier. To come out and shoot even or under par in all three rounds was terrific." Allen fired an even par 71 on Saturday to tie UBC's Evan Holmes (69) for the individual title at 6-under 207.
"Anthony is a good ball striker, but his strength is his putting and he did an excellent job on some very slippery greens," Bennett said.
Also placing in the top 10 for the Vikings were Chris Hatch (So., Mukilteo/Kamiak), who tied for third at 208, shooting 1-under 70, and Mark Strickland (Sr., Mukilteo/Kamiak), who tied for seventh at 210 (73).
WWU's Kyle Schrader (Sr., Olympia/Tumwater) finished at 215 (72) and Brennan Emory (So., Mount Vernon) at 220 (71).
The Vikings host their own 43rd Annual WWU Invitational on Monday (8:30 a.m.), Sept. 22, and Tuesday, Sept. 23 (8:30 a.m.), at the Bellingham Golf and Country Club. Ten teams are competing.
