CORONA, Calif. - Western Washington University's Mark Strickland (Sr., Mukilteo/Kamiak) is tied for eighth in medalist play and the Vikings are fifth in the team standings after the first two rounds on Monday, March 23, at the Cal Baptist Men's Golf Invitational being played at the Eagle Glen Golf Club.
Tuesday's final round begins at 8 a.m.
The Vikings shot rounds of 295 and 298 for a 36-hole total of 593.
Simon Fraser leads the 15-team field at 581 (289-292), five strokes better than second-place Sonoma State at 586 (297-289). Dixie State is third at 588 (297-291) and Dominican CA fourth at 590 (295-295).
Strickland opened with a 2-under par 70 and then shot 75 for a 145 total.
WWU's Chris Hatch (So., Mukilteo/Kamiak) is tied for 15th at 147 (76-71), Brennan Emory (So., Mount Vernon) is tied for 28th at 150 (77-73), Kyle Schrader (Sr., Olympia/Tumwater) is tied for 36th at 150 (72-80) and Kyle Lindor (So., Woodinville) is tied for 49th at 156 (77-79).
Tied for medalist honors at 2-under par 142 are Chico State's Lee Gearhart (70-72) and Sonoma State's Justin Shluker (75-67).
