TURLOCK, Calif. - With just two players breaking 80, Western Washington University finished 14th among 18 teams at the 42nd Annual Cal State Stanislaus/Jim Hanny Invitational Men's Golf Tournament which concluded Tuesday, Apr. 14, at the Turlock Golf and Country Club.
The Vikings shot 323 for a 54-hole total of 938. It was their second straight placing of 14th after being among the top 10 in each of their first seven outings this season.
Cal State Monterey Bay won by 15 strokes at 880 (304) with Cal State San Marcus second at 895 (296) and Chico State third at 900 (304). CSUMB entered the day leading by 20 strokes after shooting 288 in each of Monday's first two rounds.
Chris Hatch (So., Mukilteo/Kamiak) tied for 25th (78=229) to pace WWU.
The Vikings' Mark Strickland (Sr., Mukilteo/Kamiak) tied for 45th (79=233), Kyle Schrader (Sr., Olympia/Tumwater) tied for 65th (85=237), Brennan Emory (So., Mount Vernon) tied for 75th (81=242) and Anthony Allen (So., Arlington) finished 90th (87=252).
CSUMB's Anton Rosen maintained his six-shot lead from Monday in taking medalist honors at 213 (75). Rosen fired back-to-back rounds of 69 on the first day.
Placing second at 219 (75) was Chico State's Lee Gearhart.
WWU next competes at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships on Apr. 20-21 at Coeur d'Alene, Id.
