BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- Western Washington sophomore Trey Drechsel and redshirt freshman Daulton Hommes recorded double-doubles to lead a handful of Vikings in double-figure points in a 110-57 exhibition victory over Capilano Tuesday evening at Whatcom Pavilion.
The Vikings shot 52.4% from the floor in the victory (43-for-82), including a 56.4% mark in the second half. The win and statistics do not count towards the regular season standings.
Drechsel (Woodinville, WA/Cedar Park Christian) was one of five Vikings to score in double-digits, as all 10 players that saw action scored in the game. The sophomore scored 22 points on 8-for-14 shooting, and added 10 rebounds.
Hommes (Lynden, WA/Lynden Christian) scored 18 points with 10 rebounds, while hitting on 7-of-13 shots from the field (3-for-8 three-pointers).
Senior Jeffrey Parker (Richmond, CA/Salesian) led all players with 26 points on 11-for-18 shooting, including 3-for-7 from three-point range.
Sophomore 7-footer Logan Schilder (Bellingham, WA/Whatcom CC) added 13 points, 8 rebounds and 8 blocked shots. Senior point guard Taylor Stafford (Chicago, IL/Evansville) filled up the stat sheet with 20 points (7-for-11 shooting), 9 steals, 6 assists and 6 rebounds.
Bolstered by a 20-0 run to open the game, the Vikings took a commanding 55-17 lead into halftime. Three players reached double-digits in scoring prior to the half, with Drechsel leading all players with 13 points on 4-for-6 from the field. Schilder (12 points, 6 rebounds, 4 blocks) and Parker (11 points, 5 rebounds) also scored in double-digits for the Vikings.
WWU out-scored the Blues 55-40 in the second half, led by 15 points from Parker and 13 points from Hommes.
Caden Rowland (Des Moines, WA/Highline CC) lead the Blues with 15 points on 5-for-21 shooting.
The Vikings close out the preseason on Thursday with an exhibition game at the University of Washington at Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle. The game will start at 7 pm and air on KBAI (930 AM & 98.9 FM) with Doug Lange and Mark Scholten on the call.
