SEATTLE, Wash. -- The Western Washington University Women's Rowing team closed out the fall regatta season competing at the Head of the Lake Regatta Sunday on Montlake Cut and Lake Union in Seattle.

"I felt like we did a pretty good job at the event today and throughout fall training," said head coach John Fuchs, who enters his 19th season at the helm of the Vikings. "Now it's a shift to strength and fitness training for a couple of months. That will be key for us heading into the spring season."

The Varsity 8 boat finished 7th completing the 4800m course in 20:24.980, competing entirely against Division I programs. The University of Washington won the race in 17:57.574.

The Vikings also finsihed 7th in the Women's Collegiate JV 8+ race in 20:47.971, a little more than 2 minutes behind the University of Washington (18:36.317).

The 3V 8+ boat rounded out the regatta finishing 4th in the 5-boat race, completing the course in 21:30.668. Washington State won the race in 19:35.956.

The Head of the Lake started on Lake Union, continued through the Montlake Cut to Lake Washington and fiished near the UW Conibear Shellhouse.

The Vikings, who finished 3rd in the NCAA Division II Championships last season, open the spring regatta season March 11, 2017 at the PLU Regatta on American Lake in Lakewood.
