CORONA, Calif. - The Western Washington University men's golf team is in 7th place after the first two rounds of the Cal Baptist Men's Invitational played at Eagle Glen Golf Club.

The Vikings top 4 scorers (out of 5 players) combined for a two-round score of 598 (+22) on the Par 72 course. WWU heads into tomorrow's final round 20 shots back of tournament host and first place Cal Baptist (+2, 578), but is only 4 shots from 4th place.

"It wasn't our best day, but the guys did their best to hand in there when the conditions changed in the afternoon," said head coach Luke Bennett. "The Course got very firm and the wind really picked up."

Western was paced by junior Chris Hatch (Mukilteo, WA/Kamiak) who is tied for 14th after turning in rounds of 73-74 for a 3-over-par 147.

Freshman Cody Roth (Bellingham, WA) cracked the top 20 in a tie for 19th place with a two-round total of 5-over-par 149 (75-74). Junior Brett Johnson (Ridgefield, WA/Oregon State) and junior Jeffrey Marcum (Richland, WA/South Mountain CC) are tied for 28th.

"Chis (Hatch) and Cody (Roth) played solid today," added Bennett. "They were close to posting a couple of under par rounds.

Cal Baptist junior Tai Kuida is leading the tournament with a 36-hole total of 4-under-par 140, which included a 5-under-par 67 in his opening round.

The final round will begin with an 8 am shotgun start at Eagle Glen.
