March 22, 2016 Cal Baptist Invite Results 
CORONA, Calif. - The Western Washington University men's golf team had a strong final round to finish in a tie for 4th place at the Cal Baptist Invite at Eagle Glen Golf Club.
The Vikings combined for a 5-over-par 293 in today's final round, moving up from a tie for 7th place to finish tied for 4th with a +27 (891) in the 18-team tournament. WWU's team total in the final round was tied for 3rd-best on the day. Tournament host Cal Baptist took home the team title finishing at 5-over-par (869).
WWU was the highest finishing of the five schools from the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. The No. 26 Vikings also placed ahead of No. 14 Cal State San Marcos (+32) and No. 11 Simon Fraser (+35).
"The guys took a step in the right direction with today's round...something we can build on," said head coach Luke Bennett. "Brett (Johnson) and Cody (Roth) were both rock solid today, and Brennan (Emory) was three-under on his final 9 holes. They competed hard all the way to the end of the tournament."
Western was paced by freshman Cody Roth (Bellingham, WA) who finished the 72-hole tournament in a tie for 12th place at at 5-over-par 221. Roth carded an even-par 72 in today's final round, which included three birdies, three bogies and 12 pars.
junior Chris Hatch (Mukilteo, WA/Kamiak) and junior Brett Johnson (Ridgefield, WA/Oregon State) both tied for 16th in the 95-player field. Johnson fired a 1-under-par 71 today (2 birdies, 1 eagle, 3 bogeys) for his sixth round of par or better this season.
Colorado Christian senior Nathanial Goddard (-3, 213) edged out Cal Baptist sophomore Kavan Eubank (-2, 214) for individual medalist honors.
The Vikings return to action next week (March 28-29) at the St. Edward's Invitational at Onion Creek Club in Austin, Texas.
