BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Senior forward Eleazar Galvan and junior midfielder Wesley Stark both scored goals to lead the Western Washington University men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Fraser Valley Saturday afternoon in an exhibition match at Harrington Field.
Galvan (Chelan, WA/Skagit Valley College) put the Vikings ahead at the 18:50 mark in the first half drilling home a volley off a cross from junior forward Drew Barker (Tacoma, WA/Bellarmine Prep).
Stark (Snohomish, WA) added to the lead with a late first-half goal at the 43:49 mark off a cross from junior transfer Anthony Dean (Amsterdam, The Netherlands/Bellevue College).
WWU's defense stifled the Cascades throughout the match, allowing only three shots on goal. Goalkeepers Tyler Visten (Sr., Mount Vernon, WA/Skagit Valley College) and Andrew Wildfong (Sr., Woodinville, WA/Whatcom CC) combined for the shutout with each playing one half.
The Vikings will host one more exhibition match next Saturday vs. the University of Puget Sound at 7 pm at Harrington Field. WWU opens the season on the road with matches at Chico State (Sept. 1, 7 pm) and Sonoma State (Sept. 3, 5 pm).
