March 27, 2018 Final Tournament Results 
SANTEE, Calif. - The Western Washington University men's golf team slipped to a 6th-place finish at the 68th SoCal Intercollegiate hosted by the University of California San Diego Monday and Tuesday at Carlton Oaks Golf Club.
WWU entered the day in 4th place in the 11-team tournament, but couldn't move up the leaderboard finishing with a 10-over-par 298 during Tuesday's final round. Dominican led wire-to-wire finishing the 54-hole tournament at 7-over-par for a comfortable 11-stroke victory over 2nd-place Dixie State.
Junior Michael Butler (Sammamish, WA/Skyline) led WWU's six-player contingent, recording his fifth top-20 finish of the season tying for 9th place in the 60-player field at 5-over-par 221. Butler started the tournament with a 1-under-par 71, followed by rounds of 74 (+2) and 76 (+4) on the par 72, 6834-yard course. Junior Cody Roth (Bellingham, WA) turned in Western's best round of the day with a 1-over-par 73 to finish in a tie for 12th place at +7 for the tournament. He was joined by sophomore Ethan Casto (Snohomish, WA) in the 12th-place tie. Butler and Casto tied for 5th in the tournament with 11 birdies, while Roth's 33 pars were tied for 17th-most among the 60 players in the tournament.
Dominican's Ty Macias pulled away from the field to win individual medalist honors recording three rounds under par to finish at 11-under-par 205 for the tournament. He recorded an 8-stroke victory over 2nd-place Greg Smith from Cal State East Bay.
The Vikings continue their spring break road trip competing in the Mustang Intercollegiate beginning next Monday at Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear, Arizona. The three-round, 54-hole tournament is hosted by Western New Mexico University and serves as the final regular-season tournament prior to the GNAC Championships April 23-24 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
