IRVINE, Calif. – Western Washington University senior forward
Trevor Jasinsky scored a game-high 30 points, including 21 to fuel a second-half comeback attempt, but the Vikings were defeated 90-80 by Azusa Pacific Saturday afternoon at the GNAC/PacWest Challenge.
The Vikings battled back from a 23-point second-half deficit to pull to within nine points with under a minute remaining, but the comeback attempt stalled for WWU to fall to 2-3 on the season. Saturday's game was a quick turnaround after Friday night's 79-72 win over tournament host Concordia-Irvine, with just over 15 hours of rest.
Jasinsky scored his 30 points on 7-for-15 shooting, including 3-for-8 from 3-point range, and he was 13-for-14 from the free throw line. Senior forward
Cameron Retherford added 18 points on 6-for-13 shooting and senior guard
Tucker Eenigenburg had 11 points on 5-for-10 shooting.
APU (4-1) had five players reach double-figures in points, led by 20 points on 7-for-13 shooting by guard Brennan Rymer. Guard Noah Bundrant added a 15-point, 10-rebound double-double. Overall the Cougars shot 55.8% for the game, connecting on 29-of-52 shots, and were 13-for-24 from 3-point range (54.2%).
