BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Western Washington University men's basketball team closes out the non-conference portion of its 2019-20 schedule this weekend hosting Capilano on Sunday in Carver Gym.
The final game of the decade will feature a 3 pm tip-off on WECU Court in Carver Gym with the Vikings hosting the Blues out of North Vancouver, British Columbia.
WWU is 5-4 overall and off to a 1-1 start in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play. The Vikings are coming off their best performance of the season defeating Montana State Billings 86-62 behind a season-high .567 shooting percentage (34-for-60).
Senior forward Trevor Jasinsky continues to lead the Vikings in scoring averaging 17.2 points per game, but sophomore guard/forward Jalen Green has been coming on strong averaging 12.9 points, 1.9 blocks and 6.3 rebounds per game.
The Vikings return to GNAC play on Thursday, January 2 hosting Central Washington in Carver Gym with tip-off at 7 pm on WECU Court.

WHAT A DECADE IT HAS BEEN
The Vikings have just one game remaining this decade, and what a decade it has been. Since January 1, 2010, the Vikings have recorded a 214-91 record for a .702 winning percentage and won the 2011-12 NCAA Division II National Championship.
The Vikings are one win away from reaching 1,500 wins all-time in program history. The program has recorded a 1499-1043 record in 118 seasons of varsity basketball for a .590 winning percentage. Over the last 13 seasons WWU is 262-110 (.704).
Here are some tidbits on the WWU Men's Basketball team heading into the final non-conference game of the season:
· Scoring Offense – 3rd in the GNAC averaging 80.7 points per game.
· Charity Stripe Success – 2nd in the conference with a 75.6 FT% (136-for-180).
· Sharp Shooters – 3rd in the GNAC hitting 84-of-219 3-point FG attempts (38.4%).
· Top Scorer – Trevor Jasinsky ranks 6th in the GNAC averaging 17.2 points per game.
· Points & Boards – Jalen Green is averaging 12.9 points and 6.3 rebounds per game…2nd in the GNAC averaging 1.9 blocked shots per game and is 5th with 2.6 offensive rebounds per game.
· Efficient – Logan Schilder is 3rd in the GNAC shooting 63.0% from the field (29-for-46).
· Dishing it Out – In addition to averaging 17.2 points/game, Trevor Jasinsky leads the team and ranks 7th in the conference averaging 3.6 assists/game.
· Climbing the Charts – Trevor Jasinsky will play in his 100th career game on Sunday and is 18th in program history with 1,230 career points scored…also 8th in WWU history with 162 made 3-pointers.
· Blocked Shots – Logan Schilder is 7th in WWU history with 111 career blocked shots.
· Rojas Returns – Senior Siaan Rojas returned to the court for the first time this season last week averaging 5.0 points, 4.5 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game.
· Tough Schedule – WWU is listed as having one of the top 20 toughest schedules in the nation.
· Preseason Favorites – Topped the GNAC Preseason Poll gathering 112 points and 6 of the 11 first-place votes.

Senior center Logan Schilder became the ninth player in program history and 18th in the GNAC to record 100 career blocked shots. JASINSKY EARNS GNAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Senior forward Trevor Jasinsky collected his second career GNAC Player of the Week award earning the honor for games played Nov. 11-17. Jasinsky averaged 26.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game over three games and shot an impressive 89.4 percent from the free throw line. He opened the week with 24 points and 4 rebounds in an 86-65 loss to Cal Poly Pomona. He made 12-of-15 free throws in the game. He followed with 24 points and 8 rebounds in Friday's 79-72 win over Concordia-Irvine, making 6-for-11 from the field and all nine free throws. Jasinsky closed the week with 30 points and 6 rebounds in a 90-80 loss to Azusa Pacific on Saturday, going 7-for-15 from the field and 13-for-14 from the free throw line.
Head coach Tony Dominguez is in his eighth season at the helm of the program, and 25th overall at WWU. Dominguez has led the Vikings to a 153-70 record (.686) and was the 2016-17 GNAC Coach of the Year. He is assisted by David Dunham (4th season), Bob Hofstetter (7th season), Atiavo Jude(7th season) and Director of Basketball Operations Jonathan Kim.

One of the premier basketball programs in NCAA Division II, WWU has recorded a 20-win season in eight of the last 11 seasons. WWU is a six-time Great Northwest Athletic Conference champion and has appeared in the NCAA II Elite 8 three times. The Vikings won the 2011-12 NCAA Division II National Championship and advanced the following season to the NCAA II Final Four. Western has 20-win seasons in two of the last three years, including a 25-6 record in 2016-17 where it won the GNAC regular season and conference championships title, and advanced to the NCAA Division II Championships as the No. 3 seed in the West Region. WWU is the 12th winningest Division II program with its 1,499 victories (one short of 1,500).
