Vikings Dominate CWU in 1-0 Road Win

Junior Dayana Diaz scores game-winning goal in 30th minute

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Junior forward Dayana Diaz scored a first-half goal and the Western Washington University women's soccer team recorded another defensive shutout in a 1-0 road victory over Central Washington University Saturday afternoon at Tomlinson Stadium.

WWU remained undefeated during the abbreviated spring season, improving to 3-0-2, with two matches remaining.

The Vikings dominating the flow of the game from the start, totaling an 18-2 advantage in shots, with a 7-2 edge in shots on goal.

Diaz scored the game-winner at the 29:38 mark of the first half, one-timing a misdirected header by a CWU defender to the lower left side of the goal. The goal was Diaz's second of the spring.

The Vikings threatened to add an insurance goal with 10 second-half shots, but settled for the 1-0 victory over the Wildcats. Senior midfielder Grace Eversaul had her penalty kick in the 84th minute hit off the crossbar.

WWU's defense logged its fourth shutout of the spring, holding CWU to only two shots on goal. Senior Natalie Dierickx and sophomore Claire Henninger each made a save splitting duties at goalkeeper.
