BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Western Washington University men's basketball team defeated Douglas College 114-71 in a preseason exhibition game Saturday on WECU Court in Carver Gym.
The Vikings had five players score in double figures and featured 11 players with at least six points in the 43-point victory over the Canadian school from New Westminster, BC.
Junior guard
D'Angelo Minnis led the Vikings with 21 points on 6-for-11 shooting (3-for-5 3FG) and contributed three steals and three assists. Senior
Daniel Hornbuckle and sophomore
Matthew Mayes each had 14 points. Mayes made his preseason debut going 7-for-11 from the field, grabbing six rebounds and making five steals.
Sophomore forward
Nic Welp had a strong performance with a game-high 13 rebounds and scored nine points on 3-for-7 shooting.
Overall the Vikings shot 45.8-percent from the field (38-for-83) and were 15-for-44 from 3-point range.
"I like the way this team is working together and the synergy is really good in the preseason," said WWU head coach
Tony Dominguez. "It was fun to see everyone contribute tonight and I thought we played defense with a lot of intensity and moved the ball around on offense."
The Royals were led by a game-high 22 points from Jeevan Sidhu (9-for-20 FG).
