NAMPA, Idaho – The Western Washington University women's soccer team picked up a point in the GNAC standings with a scoreless draw on the road against Northwest Nazarene University Thursday night at NNU Soccer Field.
WWU moved to 7-3-4 overall and remains in second place in the conference standings at 5-1-3, (18 points) trailing only first-place Seattle Pacific (6-0-3, 21 points). The Vikings had their four-game winning streak snapped, but are still undefeated over the last five games. The four ties this season are tied for second-most in program history.
"We were able to get a draw on the road and Claire Henninger made some nice saves for us today," said WWU head coach Travis Connell. "We are anxious to play our next game."
NNU held a 11-5 advantage in shots and edged WWU 5-3 in shots on goal in the 90-minute contest.
Senior goalkeeper Claire Henninger logged her fifth shutout of the season and 17th of her career to move into a tie for 7th place in WWU history. WWU's defense registered its GNAC-leading seventh shutout of the season.
NNU recorded its fifth tie of the season moving to 4-4-5 overall and 2-4-3 in conference play. Thursday marked the Nighthawks fourth scoreless draw of the season.
The Vikings (7-3-4, 5-1-3 GNAC) remain on the road closing out their four-game road trip Saturday with a noon game vs. Central Washington University at Tomlinson Stadium in Ellensburg. With just five games remaining in the 2023 regular season, the Vikings have a home-friendly schedule with the final four games at Harrington Field in Bellingham.
