Vikings Double Up Douglas 122-61

Kai Johnson (24 points) and Will Wilson (20 points) lead high-scoring offense

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Western Washington University men's basketball team opened a stretch of six consecutive home games with a decisive 122-61 victory over Douglas College Saturday afternoon in non-conference play on WECU Court in Carver Gym.

The Vikings improved to 6-3 overall while hitting the century mark in scoring for the second consecutive game with the 61-point margin of victory. WWU remains at home through early January continuing the homestand next Saturday opening Great Northwest Athletic Conference play on Saturday, December 2 hosting Simon Fraser University.

Western's high-powered offense was led by 20-point scoring performances from junior guards Kai Johnson (24 points, 10-for-11 FG, 6 assists, 4 steals) and Will Wilson (20 points, 8-for-12 FG). Senior guard/forward Darius Gary added 14 points and junior forward Nic Welp and sophomore post player BJ Kolly each had 10 points.

The Vikings combined to shoot 61.3-percent in the game, connecting on 49 of their 80 attempts, and were 12-for-29 from three-point range (.414). WWU's 21 steals are third-most as a team during the NCAA era (since 1998-99) and the Vikings defense also recorded 10 blocked shots. Western shared the ball well with all 12 active players scoring and the team totaling 30 assists for the most in a game since also recording 30 last season vs. Maine Fort Kent.

Douglas (New Westminster, BC) was led by 21 points by Ekman Sohal and a 19-point effort from Andrei Verchez.
