Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Jeff Evans, Director of Athletic Communications

Vikings Create Chances, Settle for 0-0 Draw

WWU remains unbeaten in GNAC play at 1-0-2 following draw on the road

LACEY, Wash. – The Western Washington University women's soccer dominated the stat sheet in its Thursday road conference match at Saint Martin's, but fell short of finding the back of the net in a 0-0 tie at Saints Field.

The Vikings created plenty of chances in the 90-minute match holding a 19-6 advantage in shots (6-2 in shots on goal), but were held scoreless for the fourth time this season while moving to 3-2-3 on the season overall and remaining unbeaten in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play at 1-0-2.

WWU's defense was again in fine form recording its fifth shutout performance in eight matches this season. Western controlled possession throughout the game and limited the Saints to only two shots in the second half.

"This was a game where the two teams played hard and were motivated. I am happy with how we approached the game," said WWU head coach Travis Connell. "We created some chances, but just didn't get the one we wanted. That's the toughest part of the game. I thought we defended well, so that was a bright spot for sure. We now have to be able to recover and get ready for a tough match Saturday at Western Oregon."

The Vikings looked to forge ahead in the 81st minute when a corner kick was re-directed into the back of the net, but WWU was called for a foul in the scrum inside the six-yard box wiping the potential game-winning goal off the scoreboard.

Saint Martin's goalkeeper Flavia Burrell stopped all six of the Vikings shots on goal to record the shutout.
