Vikings Fall to Seattle Pacific in Five Sets

WWU has four-match winning steak snapped in loss to Falcons

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Western Washington University volleyball team had its four-match winning streak snapped in a five-set loss to Seattle Pacific University Thursday evening on WECU Court in Carver Gym.

The Vikings led the match 2-0 by taking the first two sets 25-19 and 25-20, but the Falcons completed the reverse sweep taking the next three sets 25-23, 25-21 and 15-12 to record their first win in Carver Gym since 2013.

After winning the first set 25-19, SPU took control of the second set going up 20-13 over the Vikings. With sophomore setter Caroline Hansen on the service line, WWU rattled off 12 consecutive points to take the set 25-20.

Western looked to complete the home sweep leading 23-17 in the third set, but SPU scored the final eight points to extend the match winning 25-23. WWU also led the fourth set 21-19, but the Falcons scored six consecutive points to push the match into the decisive fifth set. SPU built a 10-4 lead and held off a late Western rally to secure the road victory.
