First Place Vikings Shut Out NNU 2-0 at Home

Jane Hmura (44’) and Halle Noel (68’) score goals as Vikings remain undefeated in GNAC play

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Western Washington University women's soccer team scored a goal in each half to record a 2-0 home victory over Northwest Nazarene Thursday in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play at Harrington Field.

The Vikings remain in first place in the GNAC with 23 points building an undefeated 7-0-2 record and won their fifth consecutive game to improve to 8-2-4 on the season. With SPU and Western Oregon playing to a scoreless tie, the Vikings are now four points clear of the second-place Falcons in the table.

The game was a stalemate the for the first 40 minutes with very little action in front of the goal. Coming in as a reserve in the 30th minute, sophomore defender Jane Hmura took a chance from 30-yards out, surprising the goalkeeper with an accurate shot into the upper quadrant of the goal.

The Vikings struck again 22 minutes into the second half off a free kick from junior defender Emily Rice near the left sideline. Rice lifted the ball into the box with senior defender Halle Noel heading the ball into the back of the net near the top of the six-yard box for her second career goal (67th career game).

Senior goalkeeper Abigail Trengove made a pair of saves and WWU's backline combined for the seventh shutout of the season.

WWU held a 7-3 advantage in shots, 5-2 in shots on goal and 7-2 in corner kicks.

NNU dropped to 3-10-0 overall and 3-6-0 in GNAC play.
