No. 20 Viking Earn Road Draw at Sonoma State

WWU remains undefeated on the season at 1-0-2 through first three games

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The No. 20 Western Washington University women's soccer team went on the road for the first time this season and played West Region opponent Sonoma State to a 1-1 tie Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Seawolf Soccer Field.

The Vikings remain undefeated during the early part of the 2024 season at 1-0-2 following the 1-1 draw at SSU.

The Seawolves got on the scoreboard first in the 17th minute when Julia Betti scored on a long free kick that took a high bounce off the dry natural-grass surface over the WWU goalkeeper.

WWU equalized in the 39th minute off a corner kick by junior Abby Succi, with the ball redirected into the goal by a SSU player for an own goal.

Both teams were held scoreless the remainder of the match for the 1-1 tie.

Sonoma State held a 7-4 advantage in total shots and edged the Vikings 4-3 in shots on goal. WWU had four corner kicks compared to one for the Seawolves.

"I am proud of the team's belief in each other and the fight they showed today going on the road for the first time this season playing in a tough environment," said WWU head coach Travis Connell.
