LACEY, Wash. – The Western Washington University women's soccer team won its seventh consecutive games behind a pair of first-half goals from senior Morgan Manalili to defeat Saint Martin's University 2-0 Thursday at Saints Field.
The No. 11 nationally ranked Vikings reached double-digits in wins for the 19th consecutive season improving to 10-1-3 overall and remains in first place in the GNAC standings with 25 points (8-0-1). WWU extended its winning streak to seven consecutive games (tied for 10th longest in program history) and is unbeaten over its last 11 games (10-0-1) for the 12th-longest undefeated streak in program history.
The Vikings got off to another quick start with Manalili providing the early fireworks to put Western up 2-0 in the first 23 minutes of the game. Manalili scored at the 16:23 mark, gathering a deflection off her own corner kick, shaking a defender on the endline and scoring from a steep angle for her 11th goal of the season.
Just over six minutes later, Manalili scored again to secure her fourth multi-goal performance of the season (5th of career). The senior again did most of the work on the goal in the 23rd minute, dribbling into the 18-yard box and unleashing a powerful right-footed shot into the top left corner of the goal.
"It was a workman-like performance for the team today on the road," said WWU head coach Travis Connell. "Morgan scored two exciting goals and the team played the second half with excellent effort and concentration."
The defending GNAC champions inched toward another official berth in the GNAC Championships that features the top four teams in the standings November 13-15 in Burnaby, BC. Dating back to the end of the 2023 season, Western is unbeaten in its last 24 conference games (20-0-4).
WWU held a 16-6 advantage in total shots and 7-2 in shots on goal. Freshman goalkeeper Ellie McGowan recorded a pair of saves to help lead the Vikings to their sixth shutout of the season.
Saint Martin's dropped to 2-10-1 overall and 1-7-1 in conference play.
Morgan Manalili moved into 7th place in WWU history with 83 career points (30 goals, 23 assists)…just the 10th player in program history to record at least 30 career goals…of the 30 goals, 16 are game-winning scores…Asia Hardin started her 82nd career game, 6th-most in program history…Hardin is WWU's all-time leader in minutes played with 7,350 (missed just 30 minutes total in games she has appeared).
The Vikings (10-1-3, 8-0-1 GNAC) close out the road portion of the 2025 regular-season schedule Saturday traveling further south to face Western Oregon at 7 pm in Monmouth. The game will stream live via pay-per-view on the GNAC Network. WWU closes out the regular-season schedule with four consecutive home games at Harrington Field, beginning by hosting Seattle Pacific (Thursday, Oct. 30, 7 pm) and Montana State Billings (Saturday, Nov. 1, 1 pm).
